Racking inspection checklists are designed to make sure that you perform your staff-led racking inspections correctly. We would recommend anyone using a racking inspection checklist to have also taken a racking inspection training course from a SEMA approved racking inspector.

How Do Racking Inspection Checklists Work?

When a member of staff is performing one of the regular racking inspections recommended by HSE, they will need to use a racking inspection checklist to mark how each piece of equipment is looking using HSE’s recommended “traffic light” system.

To do this, they will need to know what each part of a racking system is, what it does, and how it should look. They will then need to check that each piece is in working order and mark the checklist accordingly. The checklist should be kept for a warehouse’s records.

How Does The “Traffic Light System” Work Alongside the Safety Inspection Checklist?

Your warehouse racking safety checklist needs to be used alongside the traffic light system because it is the best way to ensure that your staff have a consistent standard.

Green — If part of a racking system is marked as green by your pallet racking inspection checklist, it means that the part is functioning perfectly fine. No further action needs to be taken.

Amber — If part of a racking system is marked as amber by your pallet racking inspection checklist, it means that the part is damaged and the system needs to be immediately offloaded. The system should be repaired as soon as possible within four weeks.

Red — If part of a racking system is marked as red by your pallet racking inspection checklist, it means that the part is damaged and needs to be immediately offloaded. It also means that the system needs to be repaired immediately.

What Are The Benefits of a Racking Inspection Checklist?

A racking inspection checklist developed by a SEMA approved racking inspector is going to be much better than just any warehouse checklist template. Checklists are vital for businesses, but not all checklists are created equal. A great checklist needs certain components, and the most important of those is that the author knows what they are talking about.

Warehouse safety checklists written by SEMA approved racking inspectors have years of expertise behind them. The value of expert advice is couched in the fact that they have often spent a lot of time and money on learning something which they are willing to impart to you for free. Speaking of which…
